Stop the tower! campaign

Join the fight to Stop the Tower: Take action to protect Battersea’s skyline!

We are actively campaigning against the 34-storey Glassmill Tower proposed for Battersea Bridge Road. This massive building will overshadow homes, destroy riverside character, threatens damage to Battersea Bridge, and bring years of construction misery. Learn more about our efforts and how you can help stop this inappropriate development.

What are the Tower plans?

Rockwell, a developer of luxurious apartments backed by an American fund, is planning to build an outrageous tower right on Battersea Bridge. It is their second attempt to over-develop the site after plans for a whopping 38 storey monster were withdrawn in the face of objections. If these plans are allowed to go ahead the disruption caused during the construction phase will make our lives a misery and, once built, it will destroy the character of the riverside for ever. It breaks all planning guidelines and, if allowed to go ahead, will open the door to more projects of the same kind. And for what? To sell ridiculously expensive flats to rich overseas buyers who will probably never even live in them…

There is a long list of problems with the new plans – you can find a more detailed list in our briefing note here – but the simple truth is they are:

  • Too tall. The tower is much taller than nearby buildings, and is completely inappropriate for the area.
  • A heritage eyesore. Historic views and sites like Battersea Bridge are at serious risk.
  • Hurt the environment. The project will worsen air quality and raise carbon emissions. It adds nothing to the environment!
  • Disrupt our community. 3 years of construction misery will bring noise, dust and thousands of HGVs – threatening road safety. Buses will be brought to a standstill, emergency vehicles will be delayed potentially threatening lives and traffic will grind to a halt.

What can you do?

Wandsworth Council will soon take a decision on whether plans can go ahead soon. We need to tell them these plans are wrong for our area. We know they are listening – and your voice will make a difference.

Adding your voice to the campaign is easy – it takes just 10 minutes. Together, we can stop this project and protect our neighbourhood.

How to object

STEP 1: Go to Wandsworth’s ‘Planning Portal’ website using the button below.

Or email your objection to wandsworthplanningapplications@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk Make sure you include “Objection to The Glassmill plans – reference number 2024/1322” somewhere in your letter – and address it to the case officer.

STEP 2: Make It Personal.

You don’t have to be a planning expert to object – just tell Wandsworth Council how the project affects you, focus on important issues, and keep it short. You can find a more detailed guide to objecting – and reasons to object.
